"METHOD OF PREPARING ELECTRICALLY CHARGED AQUEOUS SOLUTION: CONTAINING STRONG ACIDS, CARBOXYLIC ACIDS, A SOURCE OF REACTIVE NH GROUPS, AND AN ALKALI METAL HYDROXIDE, AND FORMING STABLE CHEMICAL COMPLEXES AT VARIOUS pH LEVELS".

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The invention provides for producing electrolytic aqueous solutions that maintain an electrical charge in aqueous solution, thereby allowing water to be used as an anti-microbial agent for killing bacteria, viruses, fungus and parasitic infections ii humans, animals and plants. The aqueous solutions can also contain metal ions with known therapeutic properties such as copper, silver, zinc, or any other metal in the periodic table. The aqueous solutions can also contain the well-known anti-inflammatory agents such as aspirin, which contains salicylic acid, and such products as acetaminophen, ibuprofen, naproxem all of which contain an acetic acid based component. The electrolyte solutions are then used as a new type of delivery system to bring the active ingredients into direct contact with microbes either by applying to the affected infected areas, or by transport through human cells by rubbing onto the skin surface, or by ingestion. The therapeutic benefits of the anti-inflammatory agents of salicylic acid and acetic acid can also be transported to the pain site by rubbing onto the affected area or by ingestion. The invention provides for a new, never before used method of controlling microbial infections and relief of pain caused by inflammation by combining known therapeutic agents in aqueous solutions that are non-toxic to humans, plants and animals, but toxic to microorganisms.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

From the beginning of animal life on this planet microbes have played a significant role in the health of humans and plants. Most bacteria are pathogens, but many strains that are vital to man well being are non-pathogenic and vital to the ability of the species to survive. In the not too distant past, plagues would decimate population areas. The last major incidence of plague type conditions in the U.S. was the influenza plague of 1919.

The discovery of penicillin altered the war in man's favor A whole series of antibiotics were discovered and brought to bear in the eternal war against microbial infections. Scientists were able stay several steps ahead of bacteria by developing new drugs that were very effective in controlling bacterial strains as the bacteria developed resistance to the known antibiotics. However in recent years "superbugs" - anti-biotic resistant bacteria have begun to emerge and several new strains of bacteria are no resistant to all the known antibiotics. This new smart "superbug creates horrendous visions for the future and it now postulate' that in the near future the age of antibiotics will be over am very dangerous strains of drug resistant bacteria will emerge creating havoc with the human population.

How these superbugs were able to outwit the antibiotic created by scientists is described in Stuart B. Levy, MD in "The Antibiotic Paradox". The pathogens are able to c lone themselves within 3D minutes or less and by rapidly mutating, build defenses against the antibiotics. Bacteria develop resistance traits that can then be passed on to succeeding generations of the bacteria family. The resistant bacteria can also pass on the resistant traits to a different species of bacteria making more strains of bacterial antibiotic resistant.

The problem on bacterial resistance is believed to have beer caused by overuse of antibiotics for minor illnesses that did no1 warrant the use of antibiotics. This overuse is believed to have not only killed the bad guy pathogens, but also the good guys -non-pathogenic bacteria that are believed to be very important in the development of the human immune system for resistance to infections. Since antibiotics were designed and targeted at specific bacterial strain, other drug resistant strains present I the stomach would not be affected and would thrive and proliferate without the presence of the nonpathogenic bacteria. Thus science has contributed to developing these new superbugs by a form o evolution of survival of the fittest. It is one of the very rare instances where a lower form of life has outsmarted man.

In the 1980s most of the pharmaceutical companies had abandoned research on antibiotics as it was generally felt that this war on bacteria had been won. In the late 1980s and early 1990s new bacterial strains began to emerge that became resistant to all known antibiotics. Some of the more dangerous strains now resistant to antibiotics are enterococcus, tuberculosis, and strains of superbugs of staphylococcus, streptococcus, salmonella, shigella and Escherichia coli.

A field of study ignored by the medical community in the Western world is the effect of electrochemical activity and its role in controlling of infections, acceleration of healing and aiding in building up of the immune system. A large body of study exists on electrical phenomena in humans, animals and plants. These studies were all pulled together in the seminal work of Dr, Bjorn Nordenstrom "Biologically Closed Electric Circuits - The evidence to support the existence of an electrical circulatory system within the human body", Swedish Medical Press, 1988. The tome brings together all of the literature on electrochemical] phenomena in the animal body. Dr. Nordenstrom reaches the conclusion both through the literature and through a series of experiments, that proves the existence of electrical circuitry within the body. This electrical circuit is first line of defense by the human immune system in the fight against infection from microbes.

Dr. Nordenstrom's work also described a classic electrochemical reaction that occurs when a wound or a burn opens the human skin. The body is electronegative, as many studies have demonstrated that property. For instance, a standard ammeter with two electrodes positioned on the skin will reveal no potential difference between the two poles. However, when a wound occurs and the two electrodes from the ammeter are positioned with one electrode in the wound area and the other electrode positioned on normal skin tissue, a potential difference will be registered by the meter, indicating the presence of a battery type mechanism. Dr. Nordenstrom posits that the opening of the skin by the wound caused that area to become anodic or electropositive, while the body remains cathodic or electronegative.

This electrochemical reaction then explains how bacteria can invade the human body. A study at the Rowland Institute for Science Institute at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology defined the electrical activity in bacteria. The charge carried by E. Coli bacterium was measured at a thousand trilllonth of an ampere, direct current. The electrical activity was also demonstrated to be responsible for the motility of the bacterium. Bacteria are electrical creatures just as men and animals are, and therefore will respond to electrochemical stimulus. Just as man can be destroyed by a strong electrical charge i.e. the electrical chair, so can bacteria be destroyed instantaneously by a higher electrical charge than the bacteria is carrying.

When a wound area occurs in the human body that area then becomes electropositive. The bacteria that reside all over the human body can now enter through the electropositive door opened up by the wound. The bacteria is protected from the body's electronegatively charged immune system. The body recognizes the invasion and immediately sends its army of electronegatively charged particles such as leukocytes, lymphocytes, peptide and other charged particles to the wound site to neutralize the electropositive wound area in an attempt to restore normal circuitry in the skin. Once elecrtronegativity is reestablished across the wound area then the bacteria will be destroyed by the body immune system and normal healing begins. The continued flow of bodily generated electricity across a wound area is crucial to aiding the human immune system with acceleration of healing.

The electrochemical phenomena described by Nordenstrom also offer an explanation to the seemingly inexplicable effectiveness. Of acupuncture, it Is well known and documented that "oriental medicine" using acupuncture as a primary tool, has great efficacy in healing of wounds and curing of infections. Western medical practitioners have dismissed the method because the mechanism is not understood. But, from a classical electrochemical viewpoint the positioning of two electrodes across a wound area would aid in having the body's normal negative electrical current flow reestablished through the electropositive area allowing the immune system to function. This is probably the reason why oriental physicians are able to perform appendectomies and other medical procedures without the
use of anesthesia, and have better outcomes from operations such as less scarring and less infections. Elecrtronegativity is a vital part of the immune systems of animals and plants.

"The Body Electric" by Robert Becker and Gary Selden also describes the healing mechanism provided by electrical activity in healing of bone fractures, aiding in better takes or skin grafts and for the more rapid healing of burns. Transcutaneous electro neuropathic stimulation, is now widely used ameliorating back pains by directing controlled pulses of direct current electricity at the pain spot.

It can be concluded that any electrochemical active material or system that is compatible with the immune system would then help the body immune system in fighting infections and to relieve pain. An aqueous solution, as described later, with electrochemical activity has shown the ability to restore normal elecrtronegativity to an electropositive wound area and thereby aid the body's immune system. Also a superior electrical charge over that carried by the microbe would short-circuit the electrical activity of the microbe and in effect electrocuting the microbe. The activity would be instantaneous and would preclude the bacteria from developing any resistant strain, as its vital life force has been short-circuited.

The therapeutic effects of aspirin are widely known and universally used as pain relievers for arthritis, bursitis, headaches, back pains and contusions. Medical practitioners do not understand the reasons for the therapeutic effects. The most widely used delivery system for aspirin is by oral administration. Aspirin contains salicylic acid as a starting compound and needs to be highly buffered before it can be ingested. In order to be effective, the aspirin contents must go through the body to the spot of the pain. As a result the amount of active ingredient in aspirin has to be excessive in order for any active particles to reach the pain site. Further, many people develop stomach problems and other allergic reactions from the repeated ingestion of aspirin compounds and have to stop use of the product.

There are many topical, aspirin containing creams being sold for quick relief of pain. However, studies have shown that the compounds react only the top dermal layer of skin and thus may not reach the spot of the pain and are not highly effective.

Other anti-inflammatory agents such as ibuprofen, naproxem, and acetaminophen are formulated with an acetic acid base. Acetic acid, or vinegar, has been used by centuries in folk medicine for relief of arthritis and has shown some antiseptic properties. The vinegar was formed from the fermentation of cider or wine and acidification occurred forming acetic acid. The major source of acetic acid is glacial acetic acid, which is obtained from the fermentation of wood.

Sulfa drugs came into wide use in the 1930s when it was recognized that a sulfonamide killed the dreaded streptococcal bacteria in mice. A whole family of chemical compounds, primarily in the sulfonamide group, became widely prescribed by physicians for antibacterial activity. Sulfa drugs were a major breakthrough in the development of fighting certain types of bacteria infections.

Sulfuric acid is one of the most widely used chemicals in the world. It is described in Mercks as corrosive to all body tissues. Inhalation of vapors may cause serious lung damage. Contact with eyes may result in blindness. Ingestion may cause severe injure and death. Bad Stuff! However, when sulfuric acid is reacted in accordance with the method described in U.S. Patent 5,310,419 the activity of the sulfuric acid is neutralized and can be safely used in a wide range of applications, including ingestion, or by topical application. Sulfuric acid can be used as a pharmaceutical agent following the method of manufacture in this application.

Pharmaceutical sulfur, 99.5% purity is widely used as an antiseptic and parasiticidal in lotions, and has been used internally as a laxative. Thus sulfur in a benign form has many antimicrobial activities. Further certain sulfur drugs have the known property of penetrating through dermal tissue. DiMethyl Sulfur Oxide (DMSO) is such a compound and has been used in alternative medicine for relief
of pain and antibacterial properties.

The halogen acids, i.e. hydrochloric, hydrofluoric, hydrobromic, and hydriodic, are ail described in Merck Index as causing severe burns, nausea, corrosion of mucous membranes, choking, coughing and can have other deleterious effects on humans and animals. However, chlorides i.e. potassium or sodium, fluorides, bromides and iodides are widely used in human consumption and in pharmaceutical preparations. The ide form of the elements are relatively non-toxic, and in many instances beneficial for humans

Phosphoric acid is a widely used mineral acid in man industrial and food uses. By itself, phosphoric acid, can cause dermatitis and burning of skin. When reacted with potassium o sodium the phosphate can be used as a buffering agent, as flavoring agent, fertilizer and many other industrial uses Phosphates are the most widely used buffering agents. When reacted in accordance with the present invention, the resulting phosphate solutions are then able to stabilize any acid or any alkaline component, making then non-toxic to human use in many forms.

The alkaline metals are well known to be corrosive to all tissues and cause death; they are also used to neutralize acids

It is inconceivable to classical chemistry that a concoction containing several mineral acids, alkali metal hydroxides, an ammonium hydroxides, could be ingested, or used to cure eye and ear Infections, burns, and assorted other ailments endemic to the human condition.
